GPD is committed to connecting the environmentally conscious public to all the resources available to them in an effort to promote and foster applied sustainable living and development. GPD was started by regular citizens that wanted to better practice environmental stewardship.  We found it difficult finding comprehensive and credible resources to help us and had friends and family with the same experience.  We thought of all the information that could possibly be useful and have sought to compile as many sources within each of these areas as possible.  We continually are adding new resources and categories and always welcome suggestions, partners and sponsors that can help us better fulfill our mission.

Social Responsibility

Social responsibility is at the core of our mission.  We fulfill this obligation on several fronts:

  1. Our work inherently promotes socially responsible practices at its core
  2. We connect our visitors with local, regional and national organizations promoting environmental and social progress, and

Listing Criteria

The "green" industry means a lot of different things to different folks.  We have a multitude of listings and resources on our site, including DIY tools, green groups, companies and organizations, and informational resources.  Company listings can generically be dividing into companies providing green services and companies that implement green practices in their business.  By nature, the type of credentials to look for when hiring a qualified green service provider will differ depending on the job in consideration.  Because of this, there is no one golden standard, certification or licensing requirement for the green industry as a whole.  Nonetheless, there are many recognized and respected credentials for specific categories and job types (e.g. energy audits, geothermal heat pumps, architects, etc).  We try to inform our visitors of these in the descriptions at the top of applicable categories.  We give green pros the opportunity to include certifications and other credentials they may have in their listing.  This is how we balance the natural tension between maintaining a credible and comprehensive resource for our visitors.  By providing access to many green pros, we make it easier for you to compare them, take the remaining steps in the due diligence process, and find and hire a reputable company for your job.
